Horsewoman
Being a horsewoman is more than just knowing how to ride. It is a lifestyle. Horses were my life from the age of 4 until 21. Tragically, at 21, I was nearly paralyzed in a traumatic accident where I shattered my lower lumbar and pelvis. After lifesaving surgery (where a titanium cage and rods were put in place of my vertebrae), I was told I would be lucky if I walked again and that I would definitely never ride. It was 13 years until I had the courage to get on a horse again. During those years, there was a horse sized hole in my heart that was not filled until horses were once again part of my every day. Today I know I am the only one in charge of my destiny and for that lesson I am eternally grateful. (Acrylic on wood panels [26”x39”]*3)
